Best Mulled Wine Recipe

The weather is getting chilly and we’re getting ready to make mulled wine with our tasty recipe. We serve it up here at the winery from time to time and at home too. And may we suggest serving mulled wine after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Tastes great with a pecan or pumpkin pie!

Mulled Wine is a spiced, warm wine that’s mulled to perfection! Mulled Wine is also known as Glühwein, Gløgg, and many others. It’s a drink that goes all the way back to the time of the Ancient Romans. Nowadays, it’s traditionally served for the holidays. Try it once and you’ll see why it’s got staying power!

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of Stargazer wine

  • 1 bottle of Blackberry Merlot

  • 6 cinnamon sticks

  • 24 whole cloves

  • 4 good-sized slices of candied ginger

  • ⅓ cup of sugar

How-to

  1. Pour all the wine into a medium crock pot or a very large pot with a lid.

  2. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve completely.

  3. Add the spices and candied ginger.

  4. Heat the crock pot to 135 degrees F. Don’t let the liquid get too hot! The alcohol will evaporate.

  5. Let the flavors mingle for about 2 hours.

  6. Serve in a warm mug with an orange slice.

Some people add anise or vanilla pods for their own twist. You can experiment with your own blend of spices, and you’ll be serving up mulled wine all holiday season long!

Old Silo Sangria

Sangria Recipe

There are so many ways to enjoy Old Silo Wines! They pair with your favorite foods and desserts and are the perfect compliment to your “me time.” One way to enjoy Old Silo Wines that you might not have thought of is as a base to a delicious Sangria! Sangria is easy to make and perfect for hot summer days. We like Blackberry Merlot as our base, but we highly suggest experimenting with all of our small-batch wines! Grab a bottle of wine and get ready to unwind with Old Silo Sangria.

1 bottle of Blackberry Merlot – Or another of your favorite Old Silo Winery wines. A medium-body red is always a good way to go for homemade Sangria.

1 cup of your favorite fruit, sliced – We like apples, oranges, and strawberries! But you can also try limes, blueberries, watermelon, or even pineapple!

1/4 C of brandy – Or try a little Grand Marnier for a subtle orange flavor.

Sugar to taste – Start with just a pinch and add up to 1 tablespoon. Remember you can always add more, but you can’t take it away once it’s mixed in there.

Directions – Place all your fruit at the bottom of a large pitcher. Pour in your wine and brandy, or other liqueur. Stir to combine. Add sugar pinch by pinch to taste. Refrigerate your pitcher for a few hours so it’s well chilled. For a little extra something, add a cup of sparkling water just before serving for a little fizz!

New Cherri Noir

Announcing new Cherri Noir!

We’re so excited to introduce our newest wine: Cherri Noir.* It’s a pinot noir blend with an infusion of black cherry – a bold flavor that’s perfect for unwinding at the end of your day.

Why black cherry? Here’s why our winemaker, Michele, decided to bring this special wine to Old Silo Winery.

“When I was growing up in southeastern Michigan, dad made cherry wine at home! We had a small cherry orchard and after we picked all the cherries, my mom would make cherry jam, cherry juice, and cherry pies. Then my dad would make wine in a big crock in the closet. I remember watching it bubble as it fermented. My folks would be so proud to see our winery, the vineyard, and of course, they would truly enjoy this wine. When I sip Cherri Noir, its flavors remind me of our family traditions and Michigan summers with all those baskets of cherries.”

We know how much our valued friends and customers enjoy our wines, and we really think you’ll love this one! Come by Old Silo Winery for a tasting, glass, or bottle. We’re just outside Tishomingo and open Wednesday through Saturday every week.
